DOUBLE CENTURY FOR WHITWELL CRICKET CLUB

Wayne Hatton, the Chair of Whitwell Community Group presented a cheque for £200 to the young players and coaching staff of Whitwell Cricket Group.

The money was a percentage of the total raised for local charitable organisations through the staging of Whitwell Forward's annual Festival of Music in the Autumn of 2010.

Mr Hatton commented 'Whitwell Forward are very happy to support Whitwell Cricket Club in developing their junior section, the cricket club is an essential part of the village and encouraging youngsters to take up bat and ball is the most effective way of securing the clubs future. Since the club lost their main sponsor to the economic downturn last year it has become very important that local businesses and the community pull together to help out'.
