About... Whitwell Forward Community Group was established in 2009 by a group of local residents who felt it important that the community had a voice and the opportunity to improve the quality of village life.
To this end the members aim to represent the community in consultation with the council and other bodies, to organise quality activities and events that the whole community can be proud of and to access funding which can help bring community projects to life.
Initially we have concentrated on the provision of high quality music, theatre, comedy and film (check out news/events) inculding the introduction of the annual Whitwell Festival of Music. As this fantastic, charitable event nears its forth year and proves more and more popular, we have provided it with its very own website so everyone can keep up to date and nine donations have been made to local good causes from the proceeds. We promote professional theatre and music through our live and local programme, regular gigs by top bands of proven quality and we were instrumental in the provision of state of the art cinema and graphic equipment to Whitwell Centre, where films have been enjoyed by youngsters and adults alike through 2011.
The group have had a representative voted onto Whitwell Community Centre Management Committe during 2011 and Whitwell Forward members have also put the village on the world map, by establishing the Tiggy Off t' Ground WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS which are staged annually in the village.
