Whitwell Festival of Music 2010 got off to a great start with the Lafarge Acoustic Night when Smell My Finger, Green Fortune and Northern Monkey served up a treat for an appreciative audience of 120 eager Friday Festival goers. The applause had hardly died down when the Offenders struck up and Saturday's menu of music for every taste was opened to an expectant audience already numbering nearly 200.
Indoors, the Lafarge stage, designed to keep the music flowing during main stage turnarounds, held its own audience, testament to the quality of music, helpings from Tony Walker, Pale Lilac, John Tansley, Lindsay Calloway, The Silver Darlings and Treebeard.
Matt Scotts drumming workshop showcased both his extensive talents and those of his pupils, no doubt inspiring others to take up the sticks as happened at last years inaugural FOM. The DJ School had a steady flow of interested youngsters many with their colourful faces expertly painted.
Meanwhile outdoors the fantastic Whitwell Mot Test Centre Main Stage played host to band after band playing at the top of their game, ably assisted by Rob, a top class sound engineer mixing fabulous sound. Bolsovers Indie Soul band The Offenders got the day off to a great start and made way for the youngsters, Crimson Circle, who delivered a set of infectious original pop/punk material. The Warsop band left the stage followed by the local classic rock outfit After Hours who, after coming last year, once more showed tight and popular outfit they have become. Stumble alighted the stage obviously entering the spirit of the day, lead singer face painted like Tony The Tiger and resplendent in a Whitwell Festival 2010 T Shirt!
The crowd noticeably swelled in numbers as the locals ordered one last sip-the arrival on stage of good time rockers Cold Gin for their one and only 20th Anniversary farewell gig and as usual musical mayhem and rapterous applause ensued. Bullitt, followed undaunted and impressed as the sun began to sey. The excellent Idle Hands then got busy showing their quality power blues and the place began to rock. With stage now resplendent in lights and the Lafarge indoor stage wound down Ferocious Dog, unleashed their Celtic Rock to over 700 and within 6 bars they had the whole place jumping for an hour or more.
